About University of Winnipeg
The University of Winnipeg (UWinnipeg, UW) is a public research university located in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. It provides undergraduate and graduate programs in the faculties of art, business and economics, education, science and kinesiology, and applied health. Manitoba College and Wesley College were the two founding institutions of the University of Winnipeg, which combined in 1938 to establish United College. When United College acquired its charter in 1967, the University of Winnipeg was officially born. A bicameral system of university government was established by the provincial University of Toronto Act of 1906, which established a senate (faculty) responsible for academic policy and a board of governors (citizens) with exclusive control over financial policy and formal authority in all other matters. The governance structure was modeled after this system. The president, who was appointed by the board of directors, served as a liaison between the various entities in order to provide institutional leadership.
